National Consultation Workshop

National Consultation Seminar on Ecosystem Accounting was held on 11 June 2019 in the conference room of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. The seminar was organized by the Global Change Research Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CzechGlobe), Department of Human Dimension of Global Change, in cooperation with the Department of Environmental Statistics of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO). The seminar was held as part of the European project Horizon 2020 MAIA (Mapping and Assessment for Integrated Ecosystem Accounting).

The seminar was attended by 32 participants representing, beside the organizing institutions CzechGlobe and the Czech Statistical Office, the Ministry of Environment and its agencies such as Czech Environmental Information Agency (CENIA) and Czech Hydrometeorological Institute. In addition, workshop was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, academic institutions (Charles University Environment Centre, Czech University of Life Sciences, University of Economics) and other institutions such as the Prague City Hall or State Enterprise of Vltava River Basin.

The seminar was opened by the Director of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Environment Statistics Mr. Jiří Hrbek. CzechGlobe presented the current state ecosystem accounting and MAIA project, and the CZSO contributed by presenting the current state and experience of the Czech Republic with the System of Environmental Economic Accounting (SEEA).

Participants have been involved in the identification of priorities for the development of ecosystem accounting in the Czech Republic in the form of a participatory workshop World Café and gradually discussed the political priorities for the development of ecosystem accounts, the possibility of developing priority accounts in the form of barriers and opportunities, as well as the role of information, knowledge and actors.

The National Consultation Seminar will be followed up by other MAIA activities, such as a questionnaire survey and other rounds of seminars.
